The Skills Laboratory at our institution is fully functional and well-equipped, adhering to the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines to enhance competency-based learning for MBBS students. Spread over an area of 600 square meters (6500 sq. ft) and designed to accommodate 100 students, the lab provides a safe, simulated environment where students can learn, practice, and refine essential clinical skills before patient encounters. The facility includes at least eight examination cubicles for simulated patient examinations, a dedicated demonstration room and debriefing area, adequate storage for manikins and training aids, staff and faculty rooms, and video recording and playback systems for self-assessment and feedback. The lab is also equipped with E-learning resources, including audio-visual systems and internet access, along with individual and group practice stations, as well as space for simulation models and mannequins. Available training equipment includes stations for first aid, bandaging, and splinting; BLS/CPR mannequins; injection models for subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous techniques; urinary catheter insertion trainers; suturing practice models; breast and gynaecological examination mannequins; IUCD insertion models; obstetric mannequins for normal and assisted deliveries; neonatal and paediatric resuscitation models; and whole body and trauma mannequins. A dedicated team of clinicians and supporting staff ensures optimal functionality and maintenance of the lab. This Skills Lab serves as a cornerstone for achieving clinical excellence by empowering students with hands-on training in a structured and supervised setting, aligning with the NMC’s vision of producing competent Indian medical graduates.
