The Mahatma Gandhi Mission (MGM) Trust is the parent body of MGMIHS which was established in 1982 by Hon. Shri. Kamalkishor N. Kadam with a futuristic vision to provide qualitative education by applying innovative and dynamic pedagogical techniques, promote health, prevent and cure diseases, advancing biomedical and clinical research and educational programs for tomorrow's physicians and scientists. & The MGM Trust started two medical colleges, MGM Medical College Hospital at Kamothe, (Navi Mumbai) during 1989, and MGM Medical College & Hospital at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) during 1990. During the year 2006, University Grants Commission (UGC) approved establishing of MGM Institute of Health Sciences (MGMIHS) as a Deemed to be University u/s 3 of UGC Act, 1956 with these two colleges as constituent medical colleges at Navi Mumbai and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), vide Notification No. F. 9-21/2005-U.3 (A) dated 30.08.2006 issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, New Delhi. Later on MGMIHS has expanded with addition of allied constituent units and two more medical colleges.
MGMIHS has been accredited as grade 'A++' with CGPA 3.55 by NAAC in its 2nd cycle accreditation in 2022. MGMIHS has been accorded "Category I" status by UGC in the graded autonomy. MGMIHS has been ranked amongst top 200 Universities of India (Rank band of 151-200) in NIRF 2023.
MGMIHS has taken up endeavor to start new Medical College, MGM Medical College, Panvel at Navi Mumbai campus from the academic year 2025-26 with 100 intake capacity for MBBS program. This college will impart Medical Education, Health Care and Health Research. I wish all the success to this college.
